NUC Draft Guru Prospect Profile- Jalen Tabor | Cornerback | Florida | 6’0” | 201 lbs
6’0”, 201 lbs
By Nolan Fleming
Jalen Tabor has all the tools needed to be effective at the next level. He adds to a long list of Gator defenders who have become elite prospects. Tabor combines versatility, physicality, size, and speed to allow him to excel in a variety of coverages. Tabor will likely earn a starting role his rookie season and will continue to develop as he improves his technique.
Tabor has excellent awareness of where he is on the field at all times. This allows him to properly align himself, putting him in the best spot to make plays. “Teez” shows the ability to play both man and zone coverage. Tabor has shown superb ball skills, leading to eight career interceptions and twenty-eight passes defended. He has excellent versatility and shows the ability to cover receivers both outside and in the slot. Tabor’s quickness and ability to read shorter routes allows him to attack the ball and make big plays.
Areas of Improvement
Though Tabor will occasionally make plays against the run, he does now show consistency in either his ability or willingness. When watching film, it is not rare to see Tabor miss on a tackle or simply not involve himself in the play. Similar to other young corners, Tabor will need to improve on his press coverage technique. He has a tendency to lunge at receivers when using his hands, which puts him off-balance and forces him to use his athleticism to recover. Continuing this trend could lead to him regularly getting beat off the line against NFL receivers.
