Scouting Report – Player Analysis

Strong zip on short-to-intermediate passes—flashes the ability to fit ball into small windows when willing to throw the ball downfield. Holds the ball high and tight with a solid, fundamental release point up around his ear hole. Bloodlines factor: the grandson of Jim Bunning. He also played under Jared Lorenzen, ‘The Hefty Lefty,’ who was his quarterback coach in high school.

Tends to make conservative decisions and will settle for the sure thing underneath pass and often neglect wide open receivers down the field. At times he almost seems timid to risk throwing the ball deep, even when trailing heavily. Needs to make further reads through his progressions; is quick to pull the trigger to tuck and run. Suffered a hamstring injury during his 2016 campaign.

A pure pocket-passing quarterback, Towles began his career at Kentucky, where he enjoyed some early success during his collegiate career. He would go on to play under five different offense coordinators and would be a graduate transfer to the eagles in 2016. While never living up to his full potential, pro teams will be intrigued by his size, arm strength and experience as a potential developmental quarterback. It seems unlikely he’ll be drafted but in a poor quarterback class, he will be given a training camp opportunity as a priority free agent.
